Ideal Weight Calculator
Last updated: June 10, 2026Healthy weight for your height and sex.
The Ideal Weight Calculator estimates your ideal body weight from height and sex using four clinical formulas — Devine, Robinson, Miller and Hamwi — side by side in kg and lb. Enter your height, pick male or female, and instantly see each formula's result plus a sensible healthy target range. It runs entirely in your browser: free, no sign-up, and nothing you type is uploaded or stored.

How to use Ideal Weight Calculator
Finding your ideal body weight takes two inputs and a couple of seconds. Because the Devine, Robinson, Miller and Hamwi formulas use only height and sex, you don't need scales, body-fat readings or any personal account. Enter your details below and the calculator returns all four estimates at once, so you can compare them and read a healthy target range rather than a single number.
Read the full guide: How to Calculate Your Ideal Weight for Your Height
- 1Enter your height in either cm or feet and inches — the calculator converts to inches internally, since every formula is anchored at 5 feet (60 inches).
- 2Select male or female; sex sets the base weight and the per-inch increment, which differ between the four formulas.
- 3Read the four results — Devine, Robinson, Miller and Hamwi — shown together in both kilograms and pounds.
- 4Compare the spread and use the suggested healthy range as your target rather than fixating on any one formula's exact figure.
Four formulas at once
See Devine, Robinson, Miller and Hamwi side by side instead of trusting a single calculation, so you understand the realistic range your height implies.
Kg and lb together
Every result is shown in both kilograms and pounds simultaneously, with no toggling or manual unit conversion.
Private and instant
All math happens locally in your browser, so your height and sex are never sent to a server or saved anywhere.
Estimating ideal weight for medication dosing
Clinicians and pharmacy students often need ideal body weight to dose drugs that distribute through lean mass. This tool shows the Devine result — the formula most dosing protocols specify — alongside Robinson, Miller and Hamwi, so you can cross-check a calculation by hand against a reference figure in seconds.
Setting a realistic weight-loss target
Rather than picking a goal weight at random, compare the four estimates for your height and sex. The lowest and highest formulas bracket a sensible target band; aiming somewhere inside that range, in kg or lb, gives a grounded objective instead of an arbitrary round number on the scale.
Comparing ideal weight formulas side by side
Students, coaches and curious users frequently want to see how Devine, Robinson, Miller and Hamwi diverge for the same person. Because all four run on one screen from a single height entry, you can immediately see how much the choice of formula shifts the answer — often several kilograms.
Converting an ideal weight between kg and lb
If you know your target height-based weight in one unit and need the other, this calculator outputs both at once. Enter your height, read the kilogram figure and its pound equivalent together, and skip a separate conversion step when filling in forms or comparing regional guidance.
Ideal Weight Calculator — frequently asked questions
How is ideal body weight calculated here?
Each formula starts from a base weight at 5 feet (60 inches) and adds a fixed amount per inch above that. For example, Devine uses 50 kg + 2.3 kg per inch for men and 45.5 kg + 2.3 kg per inch for women; Robinson, Miller and Hamwi use different base and per-inch values, which is why their results differ.
Which formula is most accurate?
None is universally 'correct' — they were derived for drug-dosing and clinical estimates, not as health verdicts. Devine is the most widely cited in medicine, Robinson and Miller tend to read lower, and Hamwi is the oldest. Treat the range across all four as more meaningful than any single value.
Why do the formulas ignore weight, age and body fat?
Devine, Robinson, Miller and Hamwi were built to estimate a reference weight from height and sex alone, so they deliberately exclude frame size, muscle mass, age and body composition. That makes them quick but approximate — an athlete or a very small-framed person can sit well outside the estimate and still be healthy.
Can I enter my height in feet and inches?
Yes. You can input height in centimetres or in feet and inches; the tool converts to total inches before applying each formula and reports results in both kg and lb.
Is my data uploaded anywhere?
No. The calculator runs entirely client-side in your browser. There is no sign-up, nothing is uploaded, and no height or sex data is stored after you close the page.
