How does the tool find my IP address?
Your browser makes a request to the page, and the server reads the public IP from that request's connection headers (cf-connecting-ip / x-forwarded-for) and sends it straight back. It is the same address any website would see, not a lookup or estimate.
Is this my public or private IP?
It is your public IP — the internet-facing address assigned by your ISP or carrier that the world sees. Private addresses like 192.168.x.x or 10.x.x.x stay inside your home or office network and never reach this page.
Does it show IPv4 or IPv6?
Whichever your connection uses to reach the page. If your network and route are IPv6-enabled you will see a long colon-separated address; otherwise you get the shorter dotted IPv4 form.
