Work out a test score percentage

Got 38 marks out of 50 and need the percentage for a grade? Open the 'X is what %' tab, enter your marks scored as the first number and the total possible as the second, and the result appears instantly. It is the fast way to turn raw exam marks, quiz scores or assignment points into a percentage without dividing and multiplying by hand.

Calculate a pay raise percentage

To see how big a salary increase really is, use the '% change' tab. Type your old pay as the 'from' value and your new pay as the 'to' value, and it shows the exact percentage increase. The same step works for rent hikes, price jumps or any before-and-after figures, and a drop in value simply shows as a decrease.

Add tax or a tip to a total

Need to know what 8.5% sales tax or an 18% tip adds to a bill? The '% of a number' tab handles it: enter the percentage, then the amount, and it returns the extra figure to add on. Quick for VAT, service charges, commission or interest where you want the percentage portion of a price before reaching the final total.

Percentage Calculator — frequently asked questions

How do I find what percent one number is of another?

Divide the part by the whole and multiply by 100. For example, 30 out of 120 is 30 divided by 120 times 100, which equals 25 percent. The tool does this automatically when you enter both numbers.

How is percentage increase calculated?

Subtract the old value from the new value, divide by the old value, then multiply by 100. Going from 80 to 100 is a 25 percent increase; a negative result means a decrease.

Is this free to use?
